Contract N00019-84-C-005
for 18 "Coolanol Carts". This was Polars
first military contract under Hughes Aircraft as the Prime Contractor. Polar
took a 12 page performance specification and engineered the entire system.
These ECU carts are used as ground support for the radar assemblies
from F-14 jet aircraft. They provide precision temperature regulation through heating and
vapor compression refrigeration, precision flow and pressure control with variable flow
pump, and critical filtration using Polar Powers designed filter housings. The ECU
carts are required to operate continuously. If the cart fails then a $3-4 million
radar unit can be damaged.
In addition to integrating the components, Polar designed and
manufactured the following subassemblies:
- Coolanol heat exchanger with heater, refrigeration circuit, and temperature controls
- Brushless DC variable flow, magnetically coupled gear pump
- Alarm/Fault controller board
- One micron Coolanol filter and water removal filter housing
Contract 192532 for Martin Marietta
Corporation, Polar designed and manufactured computer controlled environmental control
units (ECU) for production testing of laser guided missile launch systems. The ECU systems
provided pressurized and filtered air under computer control and display of temperature,
humidity, and flow rate. Pictures are not available.
